  • Creams- These creams can be found over the counter to decrease the appearance of pigmentation. Many ingredients are found in creams to reduce the discolouration, these can also be prescribed in stronger forms. For most effectiveness should be applied twice a day to lighten the skin overall. This form is best for flat spots or age spots and effective for most skin types. With this way of correction can take time but is an affordable alternative.
  •

-Ingredients used in these creams (hydroquinone, licorice extract,N-acetylglucosamine,vitamin B-3 (niacinamide))

Facial acids - A form of exfoliating the top layer of skin, doing so will allow skin cells to emerge to replace the old cells (AHA, BHA, Glycolic, and hyaluranic acid) When this occurs the skin becomes evened out to appear smoother overall.

    Examples of effective acids

    - vitamin C (SHOP HERE)
    - alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic, lactic, citric, malic, or tartaric acid-azelaic acid

    - kojic acid
    - salicylic acid

  • Retinoids - One of the oldest methods of pigmentation correction, these small molecular structures work deep into the skin and treat the skin. This formula can be prescribed which results appear in a couple of months of use. A safe alternative for all skin tones to produce glowing skin .

  • Chemical peels - With the usage of acids to treat the desired area to fully reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation by removing the epidermis of the skin. Some extensive  procedures will penetrate deeper into the skin to produce dramatic results. Chemical peels are a method done professionally that can produce quick yields of results as well. But with all treatment due to its strength can have some side effects. After the use of this treatment it is vile to use sunscreen as the skin becomes sensitive to the Uv rays overtime.

  • Laser peels (skin resurfacing) - Using beans of light to target affected areas, there are two different types of laser peels that promote hyperpigmentation. Such as ablative this focuses on removing layers of skin. Where is non-ablative to target collagen growth with also tightening effects.

  • Light therapy - Similar to non-ablative laser treatment, light therapy as well collagen growth with multiple sessions. This treatment is used for overall pigmental issues with also being able to target wrinkles, spider  veins and pores.

  • Microdermabrasion -  Done by a dermatologist  using a tool that sweeps across the skin to rapidly but gently remove the epidermis. This helps with superficial scarring and results can be seen within multiple sessions.

  • Exfoliate - A daily or weekly combination of mircoderanraion to remove the epidermis but also attack other parts of the skin, these are texture related concerns , such as acne scars, age spots, injury scars or sun damage.

Hydroquinone, at one time, was a leading hyperpigmentation treatment but has now been found to be highly toxic, a known skin irritant and carcinogen banned in Australia, Europe, and Japan. Other treatments, such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser therapy can increase hyperpigmentation while vitamin C, one of the best-known antioxidants for the treatment of pigmentation, is highly-unstable and loses efficacy in liquid form.
